See what AI is actually doing — then use it with confidence.

A free, interactive field guide to modern AI in 21 short lessons, written for business and nonprofit professionals. No jargon assumed, no hype, and the "magic" replaced with mental models you can rely on at work.

Start Lesson 1 Open the learning pathway

The journey: five acts, 21 lessons

  1. Act 1 · Lessons 1–4

    Remove the mystery

Patterns, data, tokens and probability — what AI is actually doing when it answers you.

  2. Act 2 · Lessons 5–9

    Look inside the model

How a model learns, represents meaning, weighs context and produces an answer.

  3. Act 3 · Lessons 10–16

    Learn to direct AI effectively

Context, briefing, retrieval, tools, memory and agents — the scaffolding that makes AI useful.

  4. Act 4 · Lessons 17–19

    Use AI prudently

Why AI invents, inherits bias and gets manipulated — and how to see it coming.

  5. Act 5 · Lessons 20–21

    Put AI to work responsibly

Design human-and-AI workflows, keep judgement human, and sign your name with confidence.

What you'll be able to do

By the end of the series you will be able to explain, in your own words, what a generative AI model does when it answers you; predict where it will be brilliant and where it will be confidently wrong; brief it well, improve its output with a controlled iteration loop, and verify what matters; choose capable-enough models without surprise costs; protect personal and confidential information; and design working routines where AI drafts and you decide.

Try the idea the whole series is named after

The machine that finishes sentences. An AI assistant produces its reply by repeatedly predicting what plausibly comes next. Pick a sentence and reveal the machine's view of the candidates. (Illustrative values, simulated on this page — nothing is sent anywhere.)

Our commitments

Free means free. Every lesson, activity and quiz works without an account, payment or sales conversation. Learning is never interrupted by sign-up prompts.

Your data stays yours. As a guest, progress is stored only in your browser on this device. Nothing you type in lessons is sent to an AI service — the demonstrations are simulated locally, and we tell you clearly if that ever changes. Details in Privacy & data.

Accessible by design. Keyboard, screen reader, captions, reduced motion, adjustable text and themes throughout. See our accessibility statement.

Coming later — optional accounts. An account will add synchronised progress across devices, a completion certificate and a personal capability profile. It will never be required to learn.
